Very few people keep their cars in the garage nowadays, most garages are too busy hosting excessive clutter.  Or, many people simply don’t have a garage, and they have no choice but to leave their car on the street.  Unfortunately, the elements that your car will be exposed to during the winter by leaving it outside will slowly but surely decrease the life of your vehicle.  If you don’t have room in your garage for your car, find a way to get rid of the clutter so that you can host your car inside this winter.  Below are 5 reasons why you should keep your car in your garage.

Protection From Salt

If you live in the city, chances are, the snowplows who remove snow from your road also sprinkle salt along the way.  If your car is outside, it is more likely to be exposed to the harmful effects of the salt.  While it is impossible to avoid all exposure to salt (unless you never leave your home), keeping your car in the garage will lessen your car’s exposure.  Whenever you get a chance, you should take your car to the car wash, even in the winter, to get rid of the salt that inevitably will coat your vehicle.

Fluids Thicken in the Cold

In cold weather, fluids in your car will begin to thicken, making your car work less effectively.  This is true of all fluids: antifreeze, oil, power steering, transmission, brake fluids, etc.  Keeping your car in the garage will help keep those fluids warm so that your car can work properly.

Protection from the Elements

Allowing your car to be exposed to the elements will gradually take a toll on it.  For one, the paint on the exterior of your car will begin to fade or chip, allowing rust to start to corrode your car.  You also protect your car from the harsh winter winds, snow, and ice by keeping it inside at night.  The cold weather can cause your car battery to die, and keeping your car in the garage will prevent it from becoming too cold.

Cheaper Insurance

Many companies will give cheaper premiums for people who keep their cars in the garage at night.  This partially due to the fact that your car is less likely to get stolen, broken into, and vandalized, but also because your car will last longer as it will be protected from the elements.

You Don’t Need to Clean It off in the Morning

If you keep your car in the garage at night, you won’t have to scrape off the ice and snow that can accumulate.  Not only does this save you time, but you can avoid accidentally scratching your car with your ice scraper.
