Garage doors require regular maintenance in order to prevent large amounts of damage.

Everyone likes having a garage to keep their cars safe and to use as storage, but a garage can be equally frustrating when your automatic garage door isn’t functioning properly. If you need garage door repairs, the first thing you’ll want to do is identify what is going wrong.

Check the rollers

One common problem is that the rollers need replacing. Rollers last anywhere from five to 10 years, and they need to be replaced after that time is up because they can wear out. To prevent from further damage, you should keep track of when the rollers will need to be swapped out.

Photo-eye adjustments

It is quite possible that you or someone living with you in your home could have bumped the sensor on their way into the house. If your garage door isn’t closing, that might be the reason. Before you call a repair company, check the photo-eyes to make sure they are in the correct places.

Hinges need lubricant

If your garage door is squeaky, the hinges might need lubricant. Keeping them lubricated will prevent further damage from bothering you. The hinges should be oiled or lubricated approximately once a year, depending on how old the hinges are.

Garage door motors

As the years wear out the motor or operator of your garage door, it might lose some of the power that it had originally. This can be remedied by changing the limit switches on the motor itself.

For other problems

If none of these common fixes help you with your garage door, you might need to have some repairs done or have your system replaced altogether. If that’s the case, feel free to call your garage door experts today!
