In 2005, A Plus Garage Doors was started by Carrie Kelsch and Ryan Humphreys in Herriman, Utah. From the start, they set out to build a company that was not only excellent at garage door services—they wanted to be the best residential service provider in any industry, period.
The two-person operation slowly expanded to include additional technicians, support reps, and other team members. The company has since grown to dozens of technicians, office staff, new headquarters in Sandy, Utah, and a broad service area throughout the state.
Today, A Plus Garage Doors continues the same legacy of delivering excellent experiences and 100% customer satisfaction to everyone we serve. We’ve made it our mantra to look beyond one-time sales. Instead, we strive to build lasting relationships with our clients so ours is the first number they want to call when there’s a problem we can help solve.

The International Door Association (IDEA) is an organization devoted to enhancing the professionalism of door and access system dealers providing standards to ensure quality for customers. The association identifies door and access systems dealers as retailers that sell, install, and/or service product types that include:
- Residential Doors and Operators
- Commercial Doors and Operators
- Fire Doors
What Does the IDEA Mean to You?
By enhancing the professionalism of door and access systems dealers, the association augments the value that our industry provides to consumers by setting high standards. In order for an organization to receive IDEA certification, its employees must pass a six-part written examination, which challenges their knowledge in all aspects of residential and commercial access systems products.
Additionally, companies must provide proof of insurance, proper tax licensing, tenure, and reputation. Currently, this accreditation is voluntary, but as time progresses, advancing technology and security standards make higher demands on the standards of all employees in this industry. Certification with the IDEA ensures that companies are at the forefront of this fast paced industry both technologically and ethically.
The IDEA has initiated many programs for the continued education and success of companies in the door and access systems industry, including the following:
- An annual trade show and exposition: IDEA Expo
- The trade journal: International Door & Operator Industry
- Continued educational scholarships for members via the IDEA Scholarship Foundation
